HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RIDING MOTORCYCLES: Last 25 years but very little, I bought my first motorcycle, a secondhand KTM 950 Adventure only recently.
WHAT RIDING EXPERIENCE HAVE YOU GOT: I have done “Recce’s” to Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambik as logistical support vehicle driver but also over 4 000 km of motocycling. Lesotho is pure breathtaking and adventure riding, you experience yourself, motorcycle fitness and real Africa.
WHAT IS THE FURTHEREST YOU HAVE RIDDEN IN ONE DAY: About 600km from Maputo to Johannesburg (8 hours) but in Lesotho less than 50km of bloodsweat in half a day.
WHAT ADVENTURE MOTORCYCLE TRAVEL HAVE YOU DONE ACROSS THE SA BORDERS: As mentioned above, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambik and Lesotho. In 1997 I drove all the way down from Eritrea (Asmara) to Johannesburg in a Iveco truck, it took us more or less 2 weeks.
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BOOK ON THE CAPE TO CAIRO 2011: I am a Logistical Support vehicle driver to support and assist all the motorcycles. The traveller and adventurist in me had no problem, so it was an easy decision.
WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL FEELINGS ABOUT THE LIFE CHANGING UNDERTAKING YOU ARE EMBARKING ON: To serve and be humble towards fellow participants, all the people of Africa that we will meet or pass along the road and my Creator.
WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS: I am a South African born in Africa – to live, breath and experience real life in Africa – to make a difference and change for the better.
WHAT ARE YOU FEARING THE MOST AND WHAT ARE YOU EXPECTING FROM THIS EXPERIENCE: Mosquitoes, Heat/Sun, Rain, Cold, Sand, Rocks – so be prepared, alert and accountable and you will enjoy and finish the journey.
